We?re not hiring a videographer for our wedding. I know. Please hold your gasps.

I?ve heard all of the advice. I?ve heard regrets from brides who didn?t have one. I?ve seen the relief firsthand of a friend watching her wedding video after her father convinced her?at the very last minute?that recording their wedding ceremony is something they could not pass up on. I totally get it.

With a bigger budget, I wouldn?t hesitate to hire an amazing videographer to capture the day. The things modern vendors are doing to the humble wedding video?it?s just amazing. I remember watching Mrs. Lioness? wedding trailer from Three Ring Media in complete awe. (They?re number one on my ?if we had the money? vendor list.) It?s so full of emotion, and must be such a treasure for them to have. A great videographer is worth their weight (plus the weight of all their crazy-heavy movie making gear) in gold. I totally get it.

Image via Coastal Video

Or maybe I don?t. Because, you know, we?re not having somebody record our wedding. At least not on video. We?ll have plenty of photos. Beautiful photos, thanks to my insistence on spending every possible penny on somebody to capture our day on film (er?memory card, but you get the idea). If the dollar amount on the ?capturing memories? line of our budget www.waysfashion.com was doubled, I wouldn?t hesitate to book am amazing video team. But I don?t want to scrape together a few hundred dollars for a mediocre videographer ?just to have it,? as a few people have suggested.

Then again, maybe my priorities are out of whack. We did find room to hire a photo booth, which wasn?t originally in the wedding plan. Could have put that cash toward a videographer instead? Definitely. But every decision we?ve made for this wedding has had our guests in mind, first and foremost. Specifically, we want this bash to be a good time. Having all our friends and family together and laughing and taking silly pictures in the photo booth is going to be such a wonderful memory for them. For us. If past weddings are any indication, our circle of friends will have photo strips tacked to their refrigerators for years to come. You know what our guests won?t ever see? Our wedding video.

Image via Robot Booth

Frankly, I don?t think we?d ever watch a wedding video either. Maybe once, when we first got it. And I would probably burst with joy. Then a few short days later, it would be relegated to the back of our TV console to be covered in dust. Maybe we would dig it up again in 20 years, when our children are curious. Maybe. I?ve never seen my parents? wedding video. In fact, I don?t even know if they have one. Nobody ever talks about it. But you know what they do talk about? The memories. The uncle who thinks he can dance. The cousin that had too many glasses of wine. And if they?d had one, I?m sure they?d have stories about the fun they had in the photo booth.

I don?t want anyone to try and convince me we need to film our wedding. I?ve had so many wonderful memories in life, and almost none of them were captured in photos. Even fewer made it to video. That doesn?t make them any less special or important. If we had the budget for an artistic wedding documentary, I would have written that check like yesterday. But we?ve made a decision not to hire a videographer just to have some video. For us, there?s more value investing in great fun with great friends.

I?d love to hear how you decided for or against a videographer?spill it!

Photo booths are the best thing to happen to wedding receptions since the dance floor.  Nothing gets guests more in the mood to be silly than a photo booth (accompanied by awesome props, of course). In particular, I?m a huge fan of the ones that actually print out the photos?we decided to nix traditional favors (we didn?t want to give people useless tchotchkes; plus, it was another way to save some money) in ?favor? of having guests take their printed photos home as a keepsake.

Grandpa checking out his photo booth pics

We rented the photo booth through DJ Yo-C, so luckily he was able to provide us with a CD of all the images captured throughout the night. And let me tell you, our guests took the silliness and fun factor to a whole new level! Apparently people?s inhibitions seriously go out the window when it comes to a photo booth. You could imagine my shock when after the wedding, I popped in the CD to look through the photos and saw some guests doing semi-naughty things in there! Those photos will obviously NOT be posted here to protect said parties?but it was absolutely HILARIOUS.

Here are some less scandalous examples of how much our guests enjoyed the photo booth. To jazz up the background (which came plain white), I bought a damask photo backdrop from Party City. I love the way it looks and it was SO cheap (less than $5)!!

Everyone was loving their props!

This is actually me and my seven bridesmaids trying to squeeze into the booth.

Our photographers luckily caught this moment from the outside!

And as the night went on, the photos got sillier and sillier.

Another great shot from our photos

But the photo that really takes the cake is my dad using a photo booth for the first time. It was so amazing that I had to turn it into the animated GIF below.

Sipping his ginger ale like a BOSS

I love the fact that I have all these blackmail photos?it?s one thing to have your professional pictures, but another thing to have a CD full of your guests being extra ridiculous.

Next up, the party continues to have a life of its own, so we decide to sneak off to the side to cut the cake.

10.03.2015 - klmn8340 (http://www.waysfashion.com/)
As you may have been able to figure out from my anniversary post, we?ve had a bit of a rough year. Not with our relationship, just with life in general. This series is such a great opportunity for me to reflect back on our vows and a good reminder to always be grateful for what we have, instead of upset about what we don?t.

In the first couple of months after we returned from our honeymoon, I really struggled with communication. I was suddenly very bored (going from two jobs, school, and planning a wedding to just one job gave me a lot more free time), and I was sad and scared about my mother-in-law. I had to remind myself to be good to myself and to be good to Sparky. Once I settled into my new rhythm, I felt better and more able to live up to everything I?d promised.

It?s always easier to be kind when things are going well?it?s much more difficult when things are bad. With this in mind, both Sparky and I made the extra effort to talk and work together, and I?m happy to say that we have really been living our vows.

My vows:

Sparky, I don?t know where I would be without you. I love how you have supported me every step of the way since the minute you met me. I don?t know very many guys who would help a girl move after knowing her for less than two weeks. But you were that guy and you?re still that guy to me to this day.

I love the way that you smile, I love the way that you make me laugh, and I love how you keep me safe in every sense of the word. I knew as soon as I met you that my life had changed for forever.

I still love all of those things about him.

Photo from my cousin?s wedding

On this day, before our family and friends, I promise to stand with you as your constant companion, your friend, and your partner. I promise to be my best self, always. I promise to sing silly songs, to dance, and to laugh. I promise to do my best to communicate openly with you and to apologize when I am wrong. I?ll even try to avoid saying ?I told you so? even if I?m right.

I love to make Sparky laugh. I love to laugh with him. I make up songs while I?m cooking, while I?m talking to the dog, whatever. We?re perfecting the art of a meaningful look and raised eyebrows to draw attention to things we know would amuse the other. When I have struggled to communicate (?I? statements, not ?you? statements!) I remind myself that I promised to do my best, to communicate what is wrong, and to apologize if I am in the wrong. I?m not perfect but I?m working on it. The ?I told you so? is hard, but it?s never a nice thing to hear and I need to remind myself of that.

This is how Lemongrab shows his love. Sometimes this is how we show our love, too. / GIF via WiffleGif

I promise to scratch your back when it?s itchy, to take the dog out when it?s my turn (and maybe even sometimes when it?s not), and to work with you so that we stop forgetting our laundry in the washer. I promise to encourage you and inspire you, to love you through good times and bad. I promise to be there to laugh with you, to lift you up when you?re down, and to love you unconditionally through all of our adventures in life together.

When I mentioned this post to Sparky, his response was ?Yeah! I have gotten a lot more nice back scratches recently!? Small pleasures in life, I suppose. I?ve been trying to be more open to taking the dog out when it?s not my turn (our mild weather certainly helped this last year) and to do nice things for Sparky in general. I?m also happy to report that we?ve gotten much better about changing the laundry!

I am looking forward to sharing my days with you, the ones that are sunny and the ones in the pouring rain. I hope that we continue to explore the world side-by-side and that we can always remember the love and joy that we feel today. Just as I?ve always looked to you when I needed someone solid and strong to shelter me from any storms, I hope that we can support each other so that we can w

As I stated previously, we sailed with Royal Caribbean on the Grandeur of the Seas for our honeymoon. After two wonderful days of sleeping, eating, swimming, napping, eating, eating, shows, swimming, eating, napping and eating we arrived at our first stop?Port Canaveral, Florida. We batted around several options for excursions:

1) Universal Studios?which we nixed because the boat didn?t arrive until 11am which ment getting to the park at mid-day in the summer?hello lines! And Billie?s dad lives in Florida, so this isn?t our only opportunity to go.

2) An airboat ride through the everglades and Alligator tasting?seemed fun, but it only lasted two hours and we were looking for a longer excursion.

3) The Kennedy Space Tour?everyone said this was very cool. I like space and all, but at seven hours long this seemed more like a day at school than a relaxing vacation activity?

So, to the beach we went?Cocoa Beach, to be exact. Actually, we had a blast! The water was so incredibly warm?the warmest water we swam in the entire trip. We worked on our tan, we fought the waves (it was a little rough due to an incoming storm), we bought corny souvenirs, oh yeah, and we ate lunch at Captain J?s?where you guessed it?we tried fried gator tail.

I am happy to report, it taste like chicken. After a fun filled day, it was back to the boat to avoid the rain and eat more food.

Up next, our second port of call?Nassau, Bahamas. We had already decided before we even left that we wanted to head to Atlantis to the Aquaventure Water Park. And it did not disappoint. I wish I had more pictures of the actual place, but I left my camera on the ship that day as water and electronics don?t mix! That arch you see in the middle of the building, that lovely suite costs a mere $25,000 a night?a girl can dream, right? Some of our favorite rides? The Serpentine, which drops you five stories of twists and turns in the dark and then shoots you out into a clear acrylic tunnel through a shark tank. Pretty crazy stuff. We also liked the Current?a mile-long river where you ride in inner tubes complete with escalators, conveyor belts, waves and rapids. This was not your grandmothers lazy river by any stretch of the imagination. The sunset in Nassau was absolutely incredible and the perfect cap to a perfect day.

The only real downfall to this port? Everything closed really early. The water park closed at 6:00pm, as did most of the shops and straw market. We were in port until midnight, but ended up staying on the boat after dinner since there wasn?t much to do except eat and drink, which we could do on board. Also, we were informed a travel warning had been issued by the US embassy for the Bahamas for minor crimes like petty theft, so to be cautious when wandering on our own.

Our last stop?Coco Cay, Bahamas. This is Royal Caribbean?s private island.

Since the island is small they keep the ship anchored at sea and take you to the island in smaller boats. The island was somewhat crowded, as we were sharing the island with another Royal Caribbean ship that day. But apart form some extra people, the island was beautiful. The ocean was blue, and fairly warm, and so clear you could see tons of fish, jellyfish and even sting rays?which worked out great for us since our first activity was snorkeling. After a brief tutorial you collect your flippers, mask and life vest and you?re free to explore. In addition to the broad array of fish, they also have a sunken ship and a sunken airplane for you to dive down and check out. After that we spent time swimming, relaxing and we even hit up their mini straw market for some overpriced, made in Indonesia, souvenirs. RC BBQed a huge lunch for everyone right on the island, but the line was so long we didn?t bother waiting around for food. We headed right to our second activity?jet skis.

We weren?t sure about them, but they ended up being one of our favorite activities

Hello hive! We?re so happy to introduce Jackie of Nearly Newlywed as our newest guest contributor. Today she?s going to share her top 10 wedding dress picks of the moment with you. She?s got something for every style, from clean-lined and classic to big and fluffy to bold and modern. Follow along to find your fave!

~~~
Budget:
Who doesn?t love a deal? Both of these gowns retail on Nearly Newlywed for under $1k, but will also make you feel luxurious and fashionable. We love the modern & classic silhouette of the Priscilla of Boston Jane, but for the color loving bride?we have a one-of-a-kind pale lilac Valentino gown.
Texture:
A quick and easy way to add some drama and fun to your dress is texture. Both our Marchesa & Oscar de la Renta gowns have simple silhouettes, but the texture of the pleating and appliques adds a unique and memorable touch. Texture is also a great way to hide any problem areas?you want to feel confident on your big day!
Statement Skirts:
We love the idea of the skirt being the main attraction of a gown. The gorgeous blush Romona Keveza gown?s skirt is adorned with floral petals. The Pnina gown uses pleating and voluminous layers to create a full and extravagant skirt.
One Shoulder:
Looking for a great alternative to the ever popular strapless gown? The one shoulder gown is comfortable yet structured. The sweet ruffle detailing on the Romona Keveza gown paired with the fit & flare silhouette make this www.waysfashion.com a feminine pick. If you?re looking to mix it up, this Dennis Basso gown has a little bit of a sweetheart neckline with the one shoulder.
Red:
Whether you?re attending a wedding or looking for a statement reception dress, both the Jason Wu & Prabal Gurung dresses will make you center stage. While the Jason Wu gown is classic, the nude underlayer at the bodice creates a fashion forward look. The Prabal draped dress is a perfect pick for dancing and a more casual look.
And there you have it! So which one is your favorite, bees? Tell us below why you love it!
I made each girl (Maid of Honor A, Bridesmaid G, and Bridesmaid L) their own mini book using MyPublisher. These mini books are tiny, only 3.5 x 2.75?, and have 20 pages. They cost only $2.99 each.
Personal photo
I wrapped each book up using a gift box from jewelry and a variety of craft supplies I had on hand in my stash. Mr. Tractor calls me a craft hoarder, but it always comes in handy for small projects like this!
Personal photo
To lay out each book, I used the MyPublisher software, which you download to your computer. The font that I used is a free font called Young and Beautiful. When designing your book, make sure you pay special attention to the margins on each page?one of my text pages got cut off because it was outside the ?safe zone.?
Personal photo
I collected photos of my girls and me together from my own personal collection, as well as Facebook. Did you know there?s an easy way to find photos in which you and a friend are tagged together on Facebook? Just go to your friend?s profile, click on the ??? button on the top right, and then click ?See Friendship.? Once you are on your Friendship page, you can click on ?Photos? on the left hand side, and you will see only photos that you and that friend are tagged in together.
On a few photos (particularly those borrowed from Facebook), I received a warning within the software that the photo was low quality. I would typically advise against this, but I figured since the books were so small, they would turn out fine, so I went ahead and used those photos anyway. They were a little fuzzy, but I don?t think it diluted the sentiment of the project.
Personal photo
I wanted to combine both text and photos for these books, in order to tell a little bit of each friend?s story and what she means to me. I didn?t see an option in the MyPublisher software to create text pages, so I quickly laid out text pages in Photoshop (you can also use a free program like PicMonkey) and saved them as images. Then I was able to upload them into the software as if they were photos. I won?t bore you with the full text of my books, but each one basically had a little story of how we met and some cute and funny sayings, and ended with, ?Will you be my bridesmaid??
Personal photo
In general, I was very happy with the quality of the mini books and my experience with MyPublisher. The software takes a little getting used to?I definitely spent a few hours organizing and tweaking my books. I was also a little confused with the ordering process, because apparently you cannot place one order for three different books; you have to order each one separately and pay separate shipping and handling for each. In the end, each $2.99 book ended up costing $4.23, which I think is a completely reasonable cost for this project.
My girls totally loved their books, and they all said yes!
Am I right people?  I can?t tell you how many times I?ve mentioned (around people who are married) that we aren?t sure how to display our escort cards and I?m given a blank stare in return until I say, ?You know, the little cards that have your table number/name on it that tell you where to sit??  ?Ohhhhh.?
Sometimes escort cards are easily confused with place cards, the difference being escort cards tell you which table to go to, and place cards tell you what seat to sit in at said table.  We aren?t using place cards, but we ARE using escort cards.  This post is now so boring I might punch myself in the face.  Never thought I?d be writing about escort cards.  Alas, here I am, with an ?escort card dilemma.?  (Wow.  Pathetic.)
I?m so in love with many of the beautiful options prominent on Pinterest these days, but they always seem to fit better with rustic, vintage, or outdoorsy weddings, not elegant, hotel, Scottish-inspired weddings.
In keeping with my flair for drama, we are doing a bit of a display with our escort cards.  The idea first came about when Mom Sword and Sister Big Eyes found this castle at Michaels.
Isn?t it cute?  Inside it appears to be an adorable yet functional dollhouse.  I can see us hanging onto this www.waysfashion.com castle post-wedding for future Small Swords to enjoy.
Once we figured out that it could NOT be used for a card box (note the small drawbridge opening below), I decided it could be the focal point of the first table our guests will see before entering our reception room.
We are having a dear friend of the family paint the castle for us to make it look more realistic and less juvenile.  I?m so thankful to know someone with such awesome skills!
The question I have for everyone is this, how do we display over 100 escort cards around this bad boy?  The initial plan was to use some sort of grass or moss mat underneath the castle and place the cards on top in rows.
But I also love how the-appropriately-named-for-this-post-anyway Mrs. Castle displayed her escort cards?¦what if we do that but with green paper?
image via Mrs. Castle on Weddingbee
And now I?m just confused!
(all photos personal unless otherwise noted)
So I need some advice from those craftier than myself (read: everyone).  My Sister can only do so much (hehe)!!!  How can we display our escort cards in an efficient and castle-like manor manner?  Any ideas would be much appreciated!
I?m mostly a loner. I have a very good relationship with some acquaintances and coworkers, but truth is I can count my friends on my fingers.
Now, my relationship with my girlfriends might seem odd to a lot of people. Four of them moved away for school and three of them never came back; the two who live here now have very hectic schedules and we don?t see each other a lot.
We text or message every once in a while and go for a coffee every now and then. In our school years we only got together during summer and winter vacation. We could go the entire year without hearing from the others and still talk like we saw each other yesterday. That?s the beauty of my relationship with these girls?time freezes when we?re not together.
My friends love Mr. Toadstool and always knew we?d end up getting married, so they?ve been talking about my wedding and planning my bachelorette party way before it was a reality.
I know there?s a chance not all of them can make it to the wedding, but I don?t want to think about it just yet. In the www.waysfashion.com meantime I wanted to ask them to be my bridesmaids (!). We?re all American influenced, and they knew I wasn?t likely to have the traditional church wedding, so we?re kind of on the same page. One of the first things BM A asked me after I told them about the engagement was: ?So which color are we going to wear?? I told you, same page.
So how to ask them? Facebook message? Phone call? Text? Invite them for a coffee? I could have done all those, but I?m neck deep into wedding blogs and the wedding world says you should do something special to ask your ladies to stand with you. OK, not really, but I wanted to do something special.
So I decided to give each a ring, and since we don?t have Ring Pops in México I decided to make rings for them. I know I saw this somewhere, but don?t remember where so I lack a source for the time being. But anyway?¦I made them rings from pipe cleaners and chocolate Kisses.
I picked these latte colored pipe cleaners because they were the closest I found to gold. I twisted them on my fingers twice to make the ring shape, put a chocolate on top, and held it there by twisting the remainder of the pipe cleaner.
Well, I had the rings, five of them to be exact?now I needed to pack them.
I put each ring in a box, added a little card with the date and place of the wedding, and topped it with a little message I wrote for each girl.
The message goes along the lines of:
I?m sending you this to tell you you?re a very special person in my life
and distance or time can?t change that. I?d love for you to be next to
me the most special day of my life.
I know it?s a tricky situation and I?ll understand if you can?t make it,
but I want you to know we?ll have a spot saved for you that day.
I want to know?¦Would you be my bridesmaid??
I hand delivered two and sent the other three by post. Bad idea?only one made it to its destination?bad luck. I had to sent pictures of the package to the two girls who didn?t get their package; good news is all five of them said yes?yay!
It kind of sounds like a teenager inviting her friends to her Sweet 16, but my friends loved it and that?s what matters, right?
Did you do anything special to ask your bridesmaids? Did thay say yes?
This is the post where things get real. Where you get to see how much we spent, where, and why. No doubt it?s a tough thing to write about?money, and it?s here for everyone to see, but I feel it?s an important and instructive tool for planning brides.
Thanks to our 19-month engagement, we had more time than the average couple to sock away money. I took full advantage and saved 20% minimum of my take-home pay each month. The trick is to start early to beef up your savings?it?s like retirement! The best part? Those funds were hardly missed.
We intentionally did not set a budget until we had real numbers to base it on. I mean, we could have easily set an arbitrary number and worked backwards, but you can imagine all the lovely conversations resulting from that idea. (You?ve probably had some of those yourself.) What we had were priorities. If it was important to us and cost a little more to get exactly what we wanted, we were fine with that.
Budget: loosely defined as $25,0000-30,000. We realistically expected to spend more than $25,000 given our desire for certain splurges, but hoped not to exceed $30,000. Thirty grand seemed to be our magic threshold. My parents were extremely generous and gifted us money equal to almost a third of our total expenses. Totally unexpected and unnecessary, but wholeheartedly appreciated!
Guests: 85
Venue: $2,165
Greenville Country Club?Greenville, DE
Greenville Country Club had every single thing on our want list and then some. All at an insanely awesome price for the total package. Considering that it is common practice among other venues to charge a (high) fee for the honor of setting foot on the grounds, this was a steal. From the beauty of the venue to the incredible service, you?d think they forgot to add a zero.
Included in the fee were the gardens, reception spaces (sun porch, terrace, and living room), use of two dressing rooms and private baths, and access to the venue the day before for rehearsal and set-up. And pretty much free reign of the mansion and grounds. Little things that add up like linens, tables, votives, and valet parking? All included. (The only extra expense was the fee for setting up the ceremony site?$465.)
Catering: $12,898.80
Greenville Country Club ? Greenville, DE
Before committing to Greenville Country Club, we had reviewed enough quotes from area vendors to recognize a deal when we saw it. The average price per guest in Wilmington, Delaware starts around $85 and climbs to $200+. Our price per guest was $116 (or $121 if you add in the $5 split entree up-charge due to the three meal choices). With alcohol and all the extras, we came in at $151/person. Not bad considering it included a seated three-course dinner, a cocktail hour with stationary and butlered hors d?oeuvres, a Hotel Dupont cake of our choosing (and no cake-cutting fee), premium liquor, brunch for the wedding party, a four-person tasting, three vendor meals, and the 20% service charge. Due to some last minute guest cancellations, we were shy of the $12k catering minimum so we threw in more bottles of premium white wine and sparkling wine. Here?s how the catering budget was split: $9,066 for food and $3,832.8 for beverages.
Photography: $4,800
Heather Fowler Photography
Hands down our biggest splurge. Hiring a great photographer was priority #1. It was the first thing I researched and I was at my most opinionated when discussing prospective photographers and packages. Mr. PaC wanted to keep it around $3,000, but appreciated the difference between photographers we didn?t choose and Heather. She was flexible and straight-forward from the first meeting. Case in point: we didn?t need albums so she allocated the money elsewhere.
Our package included eight hours of coverage, a second shooter, digital rights after six months, photo website, $300 credit for prints, proofs in either a hard-b
